Sending Your AP Scores/Why Should I Send My AP Score(s) to Colleges?

Find colleges and universities that offer credit or placement for AP scores. For the most up-to-date AP credit policy information, be sure to check the institution’s website.

What students must bring on test day

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for all responses on their multiple-choice answer sheet
  • Pens with black or dark-blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams
  • Their own school's code if they are testing at a school different from the one they regularly attend. Home-schooled students will be provided with their state's or country's home-school code at the time of the exam
  • A watch that does not beep or have an alarm (in case the exam room does not have a clock that can be easily seen).
  • Up to two approved calculators with the necessary capabilities if they are taking an AP Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics Exam. Students should visit apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse to find the calculator policy for their subject.
  • A ruler or straightedge only if they are taking an AP Physics Exam (Protractors are not allowed.)
  • Their AP Student Pack. If they do not attend the school where they are taking the exam, they should also bring a government-issued or school-issued photo ID.
  • Social Security number (for U.S. Citizens)** for identification purposes (optional). If students provide their number, it will appear on their AP score report.
  • If applicable, their SSD Student Accommodation Letter which verifies that they have been approved for a testing accommodation such as Braille or large-type exams.
* Additional ID may be requested by authorized test centers outside the U.S.

** Some colleges and universities use Social Security numbers as student identifiers when assigning AP credit or advanced placement for qualifying AP scores. While the College Board does not require students to provide their Social Security number, they may want to check with the college or university where they are sending scores to see if they prefer for students to provide a Social Security number on their AP Exam answer sheet.
