School counselors play a critical role in ensuring students have the academic development (in addition to the social/emotional and career development) knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be successful. Activities and strategies are implemented for our students including, monitoring grades, conferencing with individual students, families, staff and small groups of students regarding academic concerns or planning of courses. Counselors also play a prominent role in college entrance exams and coordinate the following: AP Exams, PSAT10, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and the ACT. Your counselor also manages your academic record, also known as your transcript.

Valuable academic information can be found within the "Compass" Curriculum Guide and also the South Western High School Academic Profile . The South Western High School Academic Profile is a two-page document which provides a summary of our school and district. The profile contains up-to-date information regarding course demographic information, course offerings, SAT scores, Honors and Advanced placement courses, and information about the most recent graduating class. The profile is used by community groups and colleges to get a basic understanding of our school.

Most all students will utilize CANVAS as the learning management system while attending South Western High School. Parents have access to this program to see daily progress in coursework. Parents should still refer to Sapphire for grade reporting purposes. This infographic will help guide you to resources for you and your child.

Expectations and Information for Full-time Face-to-Face Learning effective November 2, 2020:

·         Students must wear their masks correctly at all times unless they are taking a mask break or have a pre-approved mask exemption. 

·         Students engaged in strenuous PE activities may remove their masks during the activity itself (consistent with current practices)

·         Social distancing in the classrooms will be practiced to the greatest extent possible

·         Movement in the hallways will remain consistent with current practices

·         Lunch waves have been increased from four to five to maintain smaller lunch sizes while accommodating the increase in daily student attendance

·         Arrival/departure schedules and procedures will remain consistent with current practices

·         Senior and junior early release will be restored on Monday, November 9th.  Students will report to Encore and attendance will be taken before any 11th or 12th grade students are released each day.  Senior/Junior early release information and permission forms will be distributed the week of November 2nd.


Asynchronous Wednesdays

·         Students are expected to complete all assigned tasks through Canvas on this day.  

o   Note- Wednesdays are not a day off from learning

·         Office Hour Schedule

o   PD 1 8:30-9:00 AM

o  PD 2 9:00-9:30 AM

o  PD 3 9:30-10:00 AM

o  PD 4 10:00-10:30 AM

o   Band/Chorus/Orchestra- 10:30-11:00 AM

·         Wednesdays- Day 5 for Career Coaching (activities will be emailed to students to be completed electronically)

·         Staff members may elect to host synchronous support sessions during this day which is permissible but cannot be required for students

·         Athletic attendance will be taken through a Google form.  The athletic office will send a link to student athletes to complete every Wednesday by 12:00 PM.

o   Failure to complete the form each Wednesday will result in the student athlete being deemed attendance ineligible for practices and games/contests.
